Tree & Shrub Selection & Planting

Our ISA Certified Arborist thoroughly examine your site and recommends plantings based on your preferences (shade, wildlife attraction, or aesthetics) and location, microclimate, soil type, etc. Delivery, installation, aftercare instructions, and a planting guarantee are included.

We also recommend the tree selection guide sponsored by the USDA Forest Service. And the University of Connecticut has a really nice Plant Database.

The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center has a comprehensive database of VT and NH native trees and shrubs.  See our Spring 2009 GreenWords newsletter for some of our arborist's favorites.

We avoid planting invasive species of trees and shrubs and make recommendations for alternatives.  Visit The Nature Conservancy online for more information on invasives.

We always follow the The National Arbor Day Foundation guidelines of 'putting the right tree in the right place.'

The VT Nature Conservancy publishes the informational sheets below on the most aggressive tree and shrub invasives in our area and makes suggestions for alternatives:

Buckthorn

Burning bush

Bush honeysuckle

Japanese barberry

Norway maple
